Comedy, comedy, and more comedy. That’s the answer to the question, “What do you get when you cross funnyman Larry David with a big Broadway show?” And it’s also the reason that audiences are bound to flock to the upcoming Broadway production of Fish in the Dark starring Larry David.

For those of you who don’t know, Larry David is the comedic mastermind behind Seinfeld, and the brilliant star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. David is also the author (as well as star) of the upcoming Fish in the Dark. His writing credits include Seinfeld, Saturday Night Live, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. But he has also showed off his acting chops in Curb Your Enthusiasm, the TV movie Clear History, and Woody Allen’s Whatever Works.

Little has yet been revealed about the plot of the upcoming Fish in the Dark. Producers write: “Larry David wrote and stars in his first play. Women love a self-confident bald man.”

But if David’s long list of credits isn’t enough to sell you on this show, look no further than director Anna D. Shapiro. If anyone is capable of getting an award-winning performance out of her actors, it’s Anna D. Shapiro. Shapiro has been box office gold for the Broadway stage. She helmed the original productions of August: Osage County and The Motherfucker with the Hat, as well as the recent revivals of Of Mice and Men and This is Our Youth.

And David won’t be alone in carrying the comedic weight of the play. Veterans Rita Wilson and Rosie Perez will be joining David in Fish. Aside from her extensive film work, Wilson has also appeared on Broadway as “Roxie Hart” in the current Chicago revival. Rosie Perez has graced the Great White Way several times, most recently in the 2007 production of The Ritz.

Fish in the Dark is slated to play a limited run at Broadway’s Cort Theatre. Previews are set to begin February 2, and opening night is scheduled for March 5. Buy your tickets while you still can. After all, who doesn’t “love a self-confident bald man”?
